Introduction

The Card Access Wizard collects card transactions from Metasys and stores them in Microsoft Access Databases.  This is a Metalink application that signs up as a destination for card transactions from the PCFile USER_APP.  The User interface is very easy to use.  You can search by any combination of date range, time range, name, company, card number or reader.  The Employee Info tab allows you to store addition information about employees like address, phone number, pager number and anything you want in the notes field.  The search results can be viewed, stored as a file or printed using Notepad.  The following pages show screen captures and explains all of the features.

Search Criteria Tab

Search by - Set your search criteria.  As you select the check box, the corresponding frame will appear providing you with items to select.

Date Range - Set the range of dates you are looking for.  If you only want one day, set both to the same date.  Do not be concerned if the date is not valid (example – 2/31/00), the date is automatically corrected to the closest valid date.

Select name - You can either double-click on a name in the list, or begin typing the name in the upper text box.  The application finds the name you are typing and completes the name.  Hitting the enter key when the desired name appears will do the search.

Time Range - Select the time range for the search.  Use 24 hr format.

Company ID - This only applies if you assign a company name to the cardholder in this application in the Employee Info tab.  If you do assign Company Ids, you can search for all transactions by company.

Card Range - If you are looking for a card by number, use this selection.

Reader - This allows you to specify a reader so you can see who came in a door.

Sort by - You can change the way the search results is displayed by choosing a different sort order.  As soon as you select it, the new order will be displayed for the currently selected search criteria.

Search Now - Clicking on this button will perform the search using the selected criteria.

Close without Restart - Clicking on this button will close the application without automatically restarting it.  IMPORTANT - If this application is not running, it can not collect the card transactions as they take place.  They will be lost.

Search Results Tab

The Search Results tab displays the results of the selected criteria.  The top of the list contains the search criteria.  In this example only the Date Range and the Name where selected.  You can choose not to display the card number, company ID, reader name and text.  After making a change, hit the Refresh button.  The Send to Notepad button does exactly what it says, it takes the results of the search and sends it to Notepad for printing or saving to a file.  Note – Double-clicking a name in Search Results takes you directly to the Employee Info for that person.

Select Name - As described earlier, you can either double-click on a name or type the name in the top text box.  The application will find the name you are typing.  Hitting the enter key will bring the selected name’s information to the screen.

The Card Number, First Name and Last Name fields are not modifiable.  They come from the card transaction.  All other fields are modifiable.

Setup Instructions

1.        After installing this application on a Metasys Operator Workstation, go to File then Setup in the menu bar and enter the Network Name.

2.        Make sure that all report groups that have card readers, have the PCFile called USER_APP on this OWS defined as a destination for the report type of Card Reader.

3.        Add a shortcut to this application in the startup group.  This application must be running in order for it to collect card transactions.

Note - When this application is running, it monitors that Metasys PMI and Metalink are running.  It will automatically start them if it does not detect them already running.
