Dial FMS Server Application

The Dial FMS Server is a data retrieval and command issuing application giving you remote access to your Metasys Network.  This application gets installed on any Metasys Operator Workstation on the network.  The only requirement is the OWS must have a modem and phone line connection.  You can connect to the Dial FMS Server using the Dial FMS Client application or Windows HyperTerminal (HyperTerminal comes free with any version of Windows).

When this application is started, it loads into the System Tray and uses this icon .  When the icon is present in the System Tray, the application is ready to respond to any requests from the Dial FMS Client or HyperTerminal, provided the user supplies a valid password.  The only time you need to access the Dial FMS Server application is to set up or modify Groups or Passwords.  In order to do that, you must log in with the Administrator's Password (until you change it, the default password is 2468).

 

 

Objects/Groups Tab

 

Clicking on a NCM name will cause the list of Systems to only show the Systems that belong to the selected NCM.  Clicking of the Show All Systems checkbox with display all Systems again.

Clicking on a System name will cause the list of Objects to only show the Objects that belong to the selected System.    Clicking of the Show All System\Objects checkbox with display all the System\Objects again.

By selecting the Only Object Type checkbox, only the Object type specified with be displayed in the list of System\Objects.  De-Selecting the Only Object Type checkbox will cause all Object types to be displayed again.

Double-Clicking on any System\Object name or clicking on the Add To Group button will put the selected Object into the current group.

Object Groups - Double-Clicking on a Group name or select a group then click the Open button to display all System\Object names that belong to the group.  You can then add or delete any object to or from the group.  To delete an Object, select it then hit the Delete key on your keyboard.  After making changes, Click on the Save Group button.  You can copy a group by using the Copy button or add a new group using the Add New button.

There is one special named group called Commandable.  Any object that you want to be able to command must be put into this group.  If you do not have this group, add it.

The Test Link button is used to verify that you are accessing the data.  When you select an Object, you can test the link to the object.  This is only used for troubleshooting.

 

Password & Communications Tab

 

The list of passwords are the only passwords that can receive data from this application.  You can add passwords by typing them in and clicking the Add Password button.  The Administrator Password in the only password that will allow access to this application to make password changes or add to the groups.  The Change Administrator button allows you to change the administrator's password.

Incoming Communications shows the requests for data from the server while they are happening.  This screen is cleared when the connection is lost.

Any Object can be commanded - If this checkbox is checked, any object on the network can be commanded by this application.  If this checkbox is not checked, only objects in the Commandable group can be commanded by this application.
